I am reading through Ephesians, and noticed something. In Chapter 4 and 5, Paul begins to tell the church how to live out this Christian life, and many times he will tell them something to get rid of followed by something to replace it.
"put off falsehood" --> "speak truthfully to your neighbor" "Steal no longer" --> "work, do something useful with your hands"Somewhere in these chapters, you will find your issue. I know I found some that are on my 2008 list to be rid of, but the focus is not what we lose but what replaces it. What will replace the thing you would like to get rid of? Maybe the reason we struggle is because we have not focused on the replacement.
"get rid of bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, every form of malice" --> "be kind, compassionate, forgiving"
"not even a hint of sexual immorality, any kind of impurity or greed; nor obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking --> "rather [there should be] thanksgiving"
...just to name a few
