Awaken the Dawn!

Psalm 108:1-5

I love David's passion around worship and music.  I think we sometimes forget this man was a world ruler, yet he loved to lose himself in worship towards God for all the nations to see and hear.  Music was his tool.  David understood and embraced music as a powerful tool of worship.  I long to worship like that, to embrace music for its intended purpose.  I believe everyone has this desire built in them to worship God with our fullest emotions and in complete abandon.  At some point, we just begin to suppress it or de-value its importance.  Music is a powerful key to the heart.  It is the language of emotions, and it is not something to shy away from when we use it in worship toward God.  Instead we should fully embrace music as David did.  David told the instruments to wake up because he was going to awaken the dawn with his praise to God!  I love that!

What if all those who were followers of Christ had this perspective of worship and acted accordingly?  

Awaken the Dawn!

Friday follow-up #6

Hmmm, it's been a busy week so it all sort of runs together! Here is an attempt at catching you all up:)

• Brandon officiated a funeral on Monday for a little baby. So sad. God has blessed the family with peace. Please continue to pray for Chris and Lisa. Read about their story HERE.
  

• Had a camp parent meeting this week and Merrick leaves for camp on Sunday. I am a nervous wreck- can someone say "overprotective"? The great thing about the meeting was hearing everyone else's questions and knowing I am not the only one who's nervous.
  

• Planned Ethan's party at Pump it up- he is PUMPED! ha ha
  

• Brandon got to see the Foo Fighters live (he'll have to tell you more about that later)
  

• Our good friends John and Bre are moving today...sad day. We will miss them being down the street, we will miss them at church, we will miss them at work....pretty sure we are going to miss them.The picture above was taken at their farewell dinner. I had more to add but can't figure out our new camera software. I think I need a tutorial :)
  

How was your week? The one thing I know is that for me it's all about friendships on this earth- people are the ones who make the difference. What special people in your life help you through?

I don't want to grow up...

Remember that song? (singing)..." I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid....there's a million toys at Toys R Us that I can play with"...(man they should really give me some endorsement money)

But seriously, I don't want to grow up and am not sure when I ever will. Take for instance Saturday night. ABC had a Disney night (like they used to when I was growing up) and they showed an Original Disney movie called "Camp Rock" starring the Jonas Brothers.

You should have seen me and the boys cuddled up on the couch. Each commercial was about a Disney show or video. They even had "Wipeout" commercials (which my boys are dying to see- ha ha). After the movie they went behind the scenes and showed some music videos.

I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Not just because I got to bond with my boys, and cuddle up on the couch with them, and order my favorite Pizza hut breadsticks to have delivered (which is a special treat in our home because it's usually only Little Caesars around here).

It was because I got to feel like a kid. I went from actually being a "kid", to remembering when I was a kid, and now getting to enjoy things with my kids. Very cool.

I was telling B that although we both hit (clears throat) *35* at the end of this year- we are both just kids. Kids at heart, kids learning the way, kids enjoying the simple things.

And that's just the way I like it! Growing up is so overrated :)

Want some more good music? Well, check out LUMA! These guys also grew up in the youth group we led. They have grown up so much! They are ALL amazingly talented in the music area. They are also quality men. Brandon and I mentored Stephen (guitar player) and his wife, and Brandon performed their marriage ceremony! Stephen played on the worship team with Brandon for years. Marcus (bass) and Adam (drums) were also active in the youth group and played music with Brandon sometimes. Hunter (vocals) was one of the first "kids" we had over at our house from the youth group. I still remember when he was shy about getting up on stage and singing. I always knew he had the talent!!We love these guys and know they are going to make it big! Great quality music right here, folks! OH- also, their song "Wake up" was featured on an episode of MTV's "The Hills" this past season.

BTW- this is our 200th post! Does that mean anything? I know on TV shows they celebrate each 100 or so. Should we throw a party? Nah- we will just say THANKS to YOU for reading! You make it so much easier to write since we know someone will be reading.

Ok- so, here's entry #1 for our talented friends (although they are in no particular order!)...

Meet Marcy Priest! Marcy has been singing at our church ever since I can remember us having the Edmond campus! She is humble (obviously talented), and just gorgeous on the inside and out. She recently released her album and it's fantastic! You can buy it HERE. Take a listen to her music HERE. Marcy has a heart of gold and a smile and laugh that brightens anyone's day.

She has been selected as a nominee for the 2008 Independent Singer-Songwriters Association Award in the Pop category! Congratulations Marcy! Can't believe she is already being nominated and she just released the album like a month or so ago!!!

Van Halen tickets!

Yeah, my soon-to-be brother-in-law, Rick, called me yesterday asking if I wanted to go to the Van Halen concert. Heck yeah!

Van Halen was unbelievable. The Ford Center in OKC, OK was pumping. I have to say I was blown away by the show. Those boys can still play. Eddie Van Halen was a terror on the guitar as he played shirtless the whole night. His tone makes me cry. Alex still has both speed and control on his drums. Wolfgang, Eddie's son, tore up the bass, and Mr. David Lee Roth can only be described as Mr. flamboyant (Mr. Entertainer). Stage was sharp. Sound was awesome. Lights were amazing. Energy was incredible.

My only regret was seeing this without Travis, my older brother. He is the one that has shown me all things Van Halen. Travis, this Van Halen moment was in your honor...speaking of "In Your Honor," next up Foo Fighters (Jan 29th)!!

I don't know if you have seen this yet, but it's Monday and we all need to smile on Mondays. You really can't judge a book by it's cover!

Faust, Midas, and Myself

That is the name of a song off the new Switchfoot CD Oh! Gravity. The lyrics in this song are a clever way of looking at an age old tension. What if we were offered everything and anything? Nothing left to dream and fantasize about...we could have it all. What would we finally want in the end? Materialism and its promises just subtly and continuously feed the lies of what we supposedly need. I can still be driven by material dreams which I can many times justify with some spiritual goal. What if we could finally just answer that question, once and for all...get it out of the way?
